Bangalore, Oct 7: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President G Parameshwara on Monday defended his statement on repayment of loans by the minority community. He said he was only trying to extend help to the community and that he didn’t mean that anyone should be allowed to flout the law.
"I had said that minorities should be given loans to give them support and courage. It will give them a boost," he said.
His earlier statement that "it is alright if minorities don’t repay loans" led to allegations of vote bank politics against him. He had in a statement on Sunday said that that the minorities should be given loans through the corporation or through the departments. He had even advocated that loans over Rs 50 lakh should be sanctioned to them.
He had gone ahead to say that it will not be a problem if they do not repay the loans. "If they defraud its alright, there are many others who have defrauded on government loans unto thousands of crores. Let us also allow minorities to do that this is part of development process," he had said.
