Parents accused of burying infant alive

UP, April 15, 2012: It is a sign of our countrymen’s blind faith in superstition that a couple in Uttar Pradesh might have buried their nine-day-old infant alive to secure his health.

 

Having lost four children in the past soon after their birth, Hapur residents Anita (32) and husband Kiran Pal (35) sought a tantric’s help to ensure their newborn did not meet the same fate.

’The tantric, Nizaam, [allegedly] advised them to bury the baby in an earthen pot. He assured them that doing so would guarantee a healthy and long life for the child,’ a police officer said.

Anita and Pal are alleged to have buried the baby in their backyard on April 12. On Saturday, a neighbour approached the police.

’The baby survived as the lid of the pot was open. We have registered a case of attempt to murder against the couple and the tantric,’ superintendent of police S. Kiran, said. Pal and Nizaam are at large.
