New Delhi, Nov 23, 2016: A united opposition front of 13 different parties including the Congress, the Left, Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party began their protest in the Parliament complex against the government’s demonetisation move ahead of what looks to be another turbulent day in Parliament.
The first five days of the winter session, which began on November 16, was marked by disruptions and multiple adjournments as opposition parties raised slogans against the demonetisation move and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s continued absence in Parliament to answer their questions.
On Tuesday, opposition parties met to shape strategy to corner the government over its decision to scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 banknotes that has led to a scramble for cash, with snaking queues outside banks and ATMs. A BJP parliamentary meet was held as well where finance minister Arun Jaitley defended the demonetisation move.
