The incident took place on Monday around 1 pm when the officers were frisking the passengers at the pre-embarkation security checkpoint. Sub-inspector B Dilli noticed the presence of metal in the body cavity of the passenger, identified as a resident of Kerala.

The accused was supposed to travel from Imphal to Delhi on an Air India flight. On questioning, the passenger could not give a satisfactory reply.

Subsequently, he was taken to the medical examination room, where an X-ray of his lower body showed that he was carrying some metallic items in his body cavity.

Later, the passenger admitted that he was carrying gold (in paste form). Four packets of yellow gold paste weighing about 909.68 grams and worth approximately Rs 42 lakh were recovered.

The Customs officials said the passenger along with the recovered gold was handed over to them for further action.
