New Delhi, July 06, 2023: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari proposed an idea on Tuesday which he said could bring down the price of petrol to Rs 15 per litre. The Union minister for Road Transport and Highways said a blend of 60 per cent ethanol and 40 per cent electricity could reduce the price of petrol significantly.
Addressing a gathering in Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh, Gadkari said such a blend will also help reduce pollution and the cost of imports. "The import amounts to Rs 16 lakh crore, this money will go to the homes of farmers instead," added the Union minister.
Gadkari also shared his vision of empowering farmers across the nation and said the government aims to transform the farmers into both "annadata" (food providers) and "urjadata" (energy providers).
Gadkari said he is launching Toyota’s Innova car in August, which will have a 100 percent flex fuel engine, and will run on 100 percent ethanol. "Soon all vehicles will run on ethanol produced by farmers," he added.
In India, ethanol is derived from molasses, a by-product of sugar. Using ethanol as a fuel for vehicles will enhance sugarcane farming in the country.
Nitin Gadkari said that the government has prepared a plan to reduce the dependence on petrol and diesel in the coming days. He added that he has taken the initiative to eliminate the use of petrol and diesel within five years.
