Political roadshows cause traffic snarls

Bangalore, Apr 7, 2014: BJP candidate for Bangalore South H N Ananth Kumar had former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and former deputy chief minister K S Eshwarappa for company during his campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls on Sunday.

road show Kumar and former minister V Somanna had made arrangements to take maximum advantage of Yeddyurappa’s presence by organising a mammoth bike rally and roadshow that waded through Vijayanagar and Govindarajnagar Assembly segments for more than five hours.

Hundreds of BJP workers, wearing saffron T-shirts and caps, rode on bikes urging people to vote for Kumar and make Narendra Modi the Prime Minister. Kumar, Yeddyurappa, Eshwarappa, Somanna and others travelled in an open jeep waving to the crowd, flashing the victory sign. Crackers were burst all along the way.

The roadshow began at 8.30 am after Ananth Kumar offered special pooja at Gali Anjaneyaswami temple on Mysore Road. During the next five hours, the convoy passed through Attiguppe, RPC Layout, Hampinagar, Chandra Layout, Moodalapalya, Nagarabhavi.

It culminated with the leaders having lunch at Somanna’s residence in Vijayanagar. Traffic went haywire in many places during the roadshow.

Deve Gowda sweats it out

In another part of the City, former prime minister H D Deve Gowda campaigned for Janata Dal (Secular) candidate for Bangalore North, Abdul Azeem.

The roadshow started after Gowda garlanded the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar on Tannery Road. 

Former chief minister and BJP candidate for Bangalore North D V Sadananda Gowda started his day by meeting leaders of various communities in the constituency. He held a meeting with residents of the Brigade Gateway Apartments in Subramanyanagar and held two public meetings at Herohalli and Hesaraghatta.

A group of youngsters performed a flash mob as part of a campaign for Congress candidate for Bangalore South, Nandan Nilekani at Royal Meenakshi Mall on Bannerghatta Road.
