Politics is just a medium to pursue our agenda: RSS-Mohan Bhagwat

Varanasi, Feb 17: The Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) has chalked out strategies to work in close coordination with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in the Lok Sabha elections and has decided to make join-booth level teams to mobilise voters.

The strategy was decided on the concluding day of the five day regional meeting of the RSS at Varanasi’s Nivedita Shiksha Sadan on Saturday. However, Mohan Bhagwat, the RSS Sarsanghchalak indicated that he was still not confident of bringing such changes and fulfilling the agendas of the Sangh through any political process.

He said there was no problem in working dedicatedly to ensure that the BJP returned to power in Centre but warned that the RSS members must stay away from the "infectious political ambitions" that they could harbour in the proximity of power hungry politicians. "You must keep in mind that you are not expected to don any political garb and start behaving like a politician in the proximity of the BJP leaders. Let them do what suits them. But those who have been sent from the RSS to the BJP to help them have many other important missions to fulfill. They are expected to work for the unity and awakening of the Hindus and against those forces which are trying to weaken the country," he was quoted as saying.

"Politics can be a medium to pursue our agenda. But we cannot depend on politicians to spread our ideas," the Sarsanghchalak said in the meeting, which was attended by the RSS and a section of the BJP leaders in full uniform.

Meanwhile, facing criticism of the RSS members of UP, veteran BJP leader and Varanasi MP Murli Manohar Joshi unexpectedly rushed to the constituency to meet Bhagwat and explain his position.
