Pope Francis asks for spiritual protection for families, medical staff

March 20, 2020:  Pope Francis on Wednesday encouraged the faithful to pray especially for medical teams treating coronavirus patients.

The pope, the Vatican - a tiny city-state surrounded by Rome - and the church in predominantly Catholic Italy have all been forced to modify centuries of tradition because of the coronavirus outbreak.

During his audience the pontiff paid homage to those treating the sick at this difficult time.
