Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi

New Delhi, Oct 02, 2018 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered floral tributes to ’Father of the Nation’ at Delhi’s Rajghat on his 150th birth anniversary, today. 

 

In a tweet last evening, Modi had said that this year’s October 2 is a very special day as it will mark the start of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of our beloved Bapu.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi also paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi on Gandhi Jayanti. The United Nations observes the day as the International Day of Non-Violence.

PM Modi will attend programmes related to sanitation and renewable energy. The emphasis will be on the ’Swachhata Hi Seva’ mission as this day marks the beginning of the 150th year of Gandhi’s birth.

President Ram Nath Kovind also extended wishes to Bapu on Gandhi Jayanti. Taking to twitter, Kovind said, "Let us rededicate ourselves to the values espoused by Mahatma Gandhi - peace, fraternity, harmony and inclusive national development. Gandhiji’s message remains relevant for all and he continues to be our guiding light."

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) will be meeting at the Sevagram Ashram at Wardha in Maharashtra today on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

Today, #GandhiJayanti was trending on Twitter. Several ministers and leaders greeted Gandhiji on his 149th birth anniversary.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the Father of our Nation, was born on October 2, 1869. Gandhiji studied law in England and practised it in South Africa for many years. After returning to India, he became active in India’s ongoing freedom struggle.

Gandhi was one of the biggest contributors to India’s freedom movement and he always emphasised on non-violence.
