As per the minister, the letter not only contains threat to Kharge’s life but also contains derogatory remarks on his Dalit background.

"Recently, received another love letter from Manuvaadis asking me to lay low and not speak up as I am a Dalit. The letter explicitly says that I might become an MLA or a Minister, but I am and will always remain a Dalit. The letter, besides abusing my family, also states that the they won’t hesitate to have me killed in an ’encounter’ by their people," Priyank Kharge wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

The Congress leader also said a complaint had been filed at the Vidhana Soudha police station.

Kharge pointed fingers at the BJP, alleging their involvement in the threat letter. He has also asked the Kalaburagi MP Umesh Jadhav to look into the matter and address the issue promptly.

Furthermore, Kharge accused the BJP of giving a ticket to "a goon who threatened to wipe out his family" in the 2023 Karnataka Assembly election. "In the more recent, Karnataka assembly elections, BJP rewarded a goon who threatened to wipe out my family with an assembly ticket. Currently, he is absconding," Kharge said.

"I have received a threatening letter from ’manuwadis’ saying that Dalits should not be speaking out this loud. Dalits should not enter politics and Dalits should not climb the ladder of society. And if you continue to speak out we will have to ensure that we encounter you. We have already sent it to the police station. FIR has been lodged," the Karnataka minister said while speaking to news agency ANI.
