Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, March 03:  In view of the fast approaching Lok Sabha polls, a 34-year-old professor Dr Kapil Govil has developed a software ‘Asaan Matdaan’ for the benefit of physically disabled, elderly and others who are not able to reach poll centres, owing to disabilities or other reasons.

They will be able to use this software on their personal computers and cast votes straight from their houses.

Asaan Matdaan

Dr Kapil, who works as an assistant professor in Moradabad’s Teerthanker Mahaveer University, implemented the idea along with his student Jay Kumar Rauniyar in a bid to make the process of casting vote easier and quicker for those who are unable to reach the polling booths due to various reasons.

The reasons could be distance, conveyance, health issues, domestic problems, societal pressures etc.

Kapil also devised a way to do away with any possibilities of his software being misused. A person who makes use of ‘Asaan Matdaan’ to cast their vote will have to enter his/her unique voter ID number in the software, only then he/she will be able to proceed.

With the new software ready for use, the professor is now in the hope that Election Commission will soon approve it so that voters are able to avail the benefits of his services in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

In an interview with News18, Dr Kapil Govil spoke of the challenges he faced while developing the software and what according to him are the future prospects of his brand new creation.

"Present system focuses on voters who are willing to cast their vote but due to certain reasons they are not able to do so. These types of voters are broadly classified as – old age, disabled, house-wives, youngsters and those whose workplaces are far from polling booths. Problem areas of these voters could range from conveyance issues, health concerns, dependency upon children (especially for senior citizens and disabled), no interest to be a part of a queue for voting, no permission to go outside the house to cast their vote (especially women) and distance between work place and polling booth" said Dr. Kapil.
