Pune, Dec 26, 2016: On Friday evening in Pune, techie Antara Das walked out of work after informing that she was not taking the office cab, which was unusual. Moments later, the 23-year-old was seen running on the road, chased by a man looking ready to strike with a sharp weapon.

The police said Antara, an employee of Capgemini, had been stabbed repeatedly when she tried to run. A biker who was driving by watched in horror when he saw the attacker catch up with her and stab her again before running away.

Antara collapsed on the spot, barely half a km from her office. The witness, who stopped to help the young woman after hearing the fighting and screaming, called for help and took her to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The police suspect that Antara knew her attacker and had been stalked for months. Her father told reporters he learnt only after her murder that she had been harassed.

"I am shocked. My daughter was an intelligent and brave girl. But there was a boy who was harassing her while she was studying Java script in Bangalore, but I was unaware of him until I spoke to my younger daughter," Debananda Das said on Sunday. He also named a man who is being investigated by the police.

The witness has told the police that the killer was in a blue and black t-shirt.

Antara, who is from Kolkata, moved to Pune in April after she was offered a job by Capgemini.

Reports suggest the attacker met Antara when she was training in Bengaluru and followed her to Pune.

It is not clear why Antara, who reportedly always took the office cab, changed her mind on Friday.
