Navjot Singh Sidhu took to Twitter to inform about the latest development. "Chief Minister has invited me for talks...will reciprocate by reaching Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh at 3:00 PM today, he is welcome for any discussions!," he said in a tweet.Navjot Singh Sidhu’s meeting with Charanjit Singh Channi comes days after the former resigned as the Punjab Congress chief. Sidhu quit the key party post on September 28, plunging the party into a crisis.

However, in his resignation letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Navjot Singh Sidhu said he will continue to serve the party. He also said the "collapse of a man’s character stems from the compromise corner". However, Sidhu did not give details about the "compromise" factor in his letter. Sidhu had taken over as the state party chief in July this year.

Following his resignation, a minister in the Punjab government and at least three Congress functionaries followed suit by resigning from their posts "in solidarity" with Sidhu.

Earlier on Wednesday, Chief Minister Channi had said the state Congress leaders should sit down and talk about the ongoing crisis in the party. "I have no ego to talk about all the issues and am willing to sit down with all the leaders for discussions," Channi said, hours after Sidhu posted a video on Twitter explaining his sudden resignation. Now, all eyes are on the meeting between Chief Minister Channi and Navjot Singh Sidhu as the two top leaders are likely to discuss the issue during a meeting on Thursday.
