New Delhi, Nov 25, 2017: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a day after Pakistan released 2008 Mumbai attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed from house arrest. Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Rahul mocked Modi’s ‘hugplomacy’ with US President Donald Trump and stated that “more hugs were urgently needed” between PM Modi and US President as the terror mastermind is now free.

“Narendra bhai, ‘baat nahi bani‘. Terror mastermind is free. President Trump just delinked Pak military funding from LeT. Hugplomacy fail. More hugs urgently needed,” Rahul tweeted quoting a news article that reads US Congress has approved  bill delinking Haqqani Network from LeT.

Earlier on November 24, Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed was released from house arrest in Lahore. In his first address after being released, Saeed had blamed India and the US for his detention and raked up the Kashmir issue. The video, which was posted on the JuD’s Twitter handle, shows Saeed, who has been declared a global terrorist by the United Nations, thanking Pakistani authorities for his release.

“Mubarakbad (thanks) to all the judges and authorities…a few people objected to the decision (him being released) but the judges rejected their arguments. I am fighting for Kashmir’s independence. I pray to god that may He help me and my community in getting the freedom for Kashmir. India is after me but all its attempted against me have gone in waste,” Saeed said in the video message.

The decision to put Saeed under house arrest in January was seen as a response to actions undertaken by U.S. President Donald Trump’s White House against nations deemed linked to terrorism.
