Kanpur, Oct 19: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Prime Ministerial candidate began his party’s election campaign in Uttar Pradesh on Friday, providing a point-by-point rebuttal to Congress’ vice president Rahul Gandhi on development, Food Security Bill and on being pro-poor.

Addressing a rally in Kanpur, Modi hit out at Rahul for taking credit for the Food Security bill. Modi said that Rahul has never been with the poor and hence was unaware of their needs. "Rahul is born with a silver spoon in his mouth, how would he know what is poverty," asked Modi.

He said the Congress-led UPA government was working for the rich and not for the poor as claimed. "UPA government is working for the benefit of the rich people but isn’t bothered about the poor," he said.

Criticising Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s pet project, the Food Security Bill, Modi claimed that it will not feed the poor but on the contrary leave them hungry. "Food Security Bill doesn’t allocate enough food grain. Food Bill will not feed the poor but will leave them hungry," said Modi.

Modi, who was sworn in as Gujarat Chief Minister for the fourth time, claimed that the UPA was spreading false information about Gujarat to hide limitations in Congress-ruled states. "UPA not speaking about its work but only about Gujarat. Why?," asked Modi.

Further mocking the Gandhi scion, Modi said: "Rahul visits huts of poor for photo opportunities whereas I was born poor and I understand what poverty is." The Gujarat Chief Minister also hit out at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over coal block allocations.

He said that the UPA was desperate to win elections and was engaging in politcs of divide and rule. He said that UPA was not concerned about development but dividing people. "Dividing people is in the DNA of the Congress. UP has given eight Prime Ministers but there is no development here," said Modi.

The BJP’s prime ministerial candidate also hit out at the government over the ceasefire violations from across the border. Questioning the UPA’s policy on Pakistan, Modi said: "Our neighbours keep on daring us and our government responds by serving them chicken biryani."
