New Delhi, Jan 9 : Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal today announced an across-the-board fare hikes for all classes of rail travel effective January 21 midnight.
Addressing a press conference, Bansal said, there will be no fare increase when the annual rail budget is presented in the last week of February.
The fare hikes include 2 paise per km hike for IInd class suburban rail travel, 3 paise per km hike for IInd class non-suburban travel, 4 ps per km hike for IInd Class Mail/Express trains, six paise per km hike for sleeper class travel.
Other fare hikes include 10 ps per km hike in AC Chair car travel, 10 ps per km hike in AC 3 tier travel, 3 ps per km hike (apart from 10 ps hike done in April) for AC 1st class, 6 ps per km hike (apart from 15 ps hike in April) for AC 2 tier , 10 ps per km hike (apart from 30 ps hike in April) for AC ist class/executive class.Bansal was non-commital abouthike in railway freight in the forthcoming railway budget.
