Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot tests positive for Covid-19

Jaipur, Jan 06, 2022: Amid the surge in Covid-19 cases in parts of the country, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot took to Twitter on Thursday to announce that he has tested positive for Covid-19.

 

In a tweet, CM Ashok Gehlot wrote: "This evening I got myself tested for Covid and was found positive. My symptoms are very light and there is no other problem."

"All those who came into contact with me today, I request them to isolate themselves and undergo Covid-test.," the chief minister added.

Earlier in the day, the chief minister of Rajasthan had said in another tweet: "It is an assumption among the public that the Omicron variant of corona is not that threatening, which is why people are being irresponsible."

"Experts believe that post-recovery complications from Omicron can be as serious as with other variants of Covid-19," he added.

CM Ashok Gehlot also wrote that these post-Covid complications could include asthma, frequent headaches, along with lung, kidney, or heart-related illnesses.

"According to doctors, post-Covid complications were one of the reasons behind my artery blockage in August of 2021. This is why we must take Omicron seriously, adhere to Covid protocol and get both doses of the vaccine," he wrote.

Addressing a press conference hours before he tested positive for Covid-19, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot had said that elections cannot be cancelled but rallies can be.

"The Election Commission should take a call on it without delay," he told reporters during his joint press conference with Rajasthan Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra.
