New Delhi, April 19, 2013: The five-year-old girl battling for life after being repeatedly and brutally raped here for two days, might be shifted to the Lok Nayak Hospital or AIIMS for treatment, said hospital sources Friday.
"The girl might be shifted to Lok Nayak Hospital or AIIMS from Swami Dayanand Hospital for better treatment," a source said.
The girl was raped several times by her neighbour, who abducted her April 15 and held her hostage in his flat in east Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar for over two days, torturing her and denying her water and food, according to police.
The girl was rescued when her family members, who also lived on the premises, heard her screams Wednesday evening.
"Upon examination, we found a 200 ml bottle and two or three pieces of candle inserted into her private parts. This is the first time that I have seen such barbarism with a five-year-old," R.K. Bansal, medical superintendent, Swami Dayanand Hospital, told reporters.
"There were injuries on her lips and cheeks and bruise marks on her neck, suggesting that attempts were made to strangle her. Her blood pressure was way below normal, and she had fever when she was admitted," he said.
Political leaders and NGO activists today slammed the Delhi Police ACP B S Ahlawat for slapping a girl protesting against the brutal sexual assault of a five-year-old girl outside a hospital.
CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat said, mere suspension of the ACP was not enough. A case should be filed against the policemen who slapped and insulted the protesters, she said in Visakhapatnam.
"It is clear that even after all the assurances, the capital is not safe for women and girls", Brinda Karat said.
Neelam Katara, who spearheaded the fight for justice by Uphaar tragedy victims for 16 long years, said, even senior police officers need to be given training how to behave with women. "I have been saying since long that the Delhi Police Commissioner must be changed", she added.
