MP, Feb 28, 2017: An ATM in Damoh dispensed new Rs 500 notes without a serial number. School teacher, Narayan Ahirwal had withdrawn Rs 1,000 on Monday, only to discover the discrepancy, as The Times of India reported.

MP 2Ahirwal showed the notes to people around the SBI ATM, which was located near a government hospital.

Another Damoh resident, Sanjay Asati also withdrew the same denomination and found the same problem with the notes. Soon there was an uproar among all the people who had queued outside the ATM and the police was called to the spot.

Narayan AhirwalI went to the nearest SBI branch, about a km away from ATM, and showed the notes to the officials but they refused to exchange them.

This is not the first such instance in Damoh as the same incident has happened four times in the past week, including the two times on Monday.

Three days ago, Ghantaghar ATM of Damoh faced the exact same problem, yet no police complaint was filed.

Tilak Singh, Superintendent of Police, DamohI had come to know about the incident but have not yet received any complaint. Neither, the bank personnel nor the people who got the currency notes have lodged any FIR. In case we receive any complaint, we will definitely investigate.
