New Delhi, Dec 30, 2019: The Congress worker, who gave a ride to party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, was on Sunday issued a challan of Rs 6,100. The challan of Rs 6,100 to the Congress worker was issued for not wearing helmets, India Today reported.
The Congress member has been identified as former MLA from Jahazpur, Rajasthan Dheeraj Gurjar. Priyanka Gandhi and Dheeraj Gurjar were not wearing helmets during the ride when the Congress leader was trying to give the UP cops a slip.
The Uttar Pradesh Police personnel on Saturday stopped Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s vehicle in Lucknow when she was going to meet the family members of former IPS officer SR Darapuri who is in jail in connection with the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests in the city.
The break-up of the challan is: Rs 2,500 for driving licence, Rs 500 for helmets, Rs 300 for not following the traffic rules, Rs 300 for the faulty number plate, and Rs 2,500 for rash driving.
Priyanka Gandhi had taken a ride on Dheeraj Gurjar’s scooter when the UP cops tried to stop her when she was in Lucknow to meet the family members to Darapuri, jailed for anti-CAA protests.
Narrating her experience, Priyanka Gandhi told reporters, "As we were on our way, suddenly a police vehicle came in front of us and the policemen said you cannot go. I asked them why and was told that we will not be allowed to move ahead."
"I got off the vehicle and started walking. I was surrounded. A woman cop pushed me and I fell down. I was forcibly stopped. But I was determined. I am standing with every citizen who has faced police oppression. This is my ’satyagraha’," Priyanka Gandhi claimed.
The Congress leader also alleged that she was grabbed by her throat. The Uttar Pradesh Police has, however, denied all the allegations.
