September 13, 2016: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the state would abide by the Supreme Court order on Cauvery water, which described it as ‘hard to implement’.

The Supreme Court order had done injustice to Karnataka, he said while addressing media after an emergency meeting of ministers.

Siddaramaiah said the state was facing a very difficult situation. "The inability to implement the 5th September judgement was the reason why yesterday’s direction came from the Supreme Court," he said.

When a reporter asked if Karnataka had released water, Siddaramaiah said the state had been releasing water over last six days.

“The order is hard to follow, but we’ll still follow the SC order," he said.
Siddaramaiah said he sought an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to meet him on Wednesday.

Siddaramaiah requested people to peace and tranquillity in the state. "In sensitive areas where Ganesh Chaturthi, Onam and BakrEid are being celebrated we have deployed security forces," he informed the media.

He also announced a Rs 10 lakh compensation for the two individuals who have died in the violence.

700 additional central forces rush to Karnataka
An additional 700 riot control police personnel have been rushed to Karnataka to tackle the situation arising out of the protests over Cauvery river water sharing.

The Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel have been sent to the violence-prone areas of Karnataka to assist the local administration to ensure peace, official sources said.

With this, a total of 1,700 paramilitary personnel have been deployed in violence-hit areas of Karnataka for maintaining law and order.

An uneasy calm prevailed in Bengaluru today after outbreak of violence over the issue of sharing Cauvery River water with Tamil Nadu, as Karnataka’s Siddaramaiah government warned of "stringent" action against vandalism or attempts to disturb peace.

Yesterday, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh called up Chief Ministers of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and assured them all central assistance in handling the law and order situation in the two states which have been hit by violence over Cauvery dispute.
