Sans opposition, Karnataka Assembly passes six bills

Bangalore, Jun 6: In the absence of Opposition, Karnataka Legislative Assembly today passed six Bills, including The Karnataka Appropriation Bill, 2011, without any debate.

The Appropriation Bill allows the Government to draw Rs 87,737.43 crore out of the Consolidated Fund of the State for the financial year 2011-12. Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa tabled the Bill in the House which was passed by a voice vote. The House also passed The Karnataka Land Revenue (Amendment) Bill, 2011.

The Bill envisages one year period for submitting applications for the purpose of section 95 of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, 1964 as amended in Karnataka Act 26 of 2009 which expired. Other Bills that were passed were: The Karnataka State Minorities Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2011; Karnataka Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2011; Karnataka State Innovative Universities Bill, 2011 and The Karnataka Repealing and Amending (Regional Laws) Bill, which seeks to repeal certain obsolete regional laws.

JDS and Congress are boycotting the session demanding Chief Miniser B S Yeddyurappa and Speaker K G Bopaiah’s resignation in view of ’strictures’ passed against them by Supreme Court while setting aside disqualification of 16 MLAS. JDS decided to boycott the entire session, which began on June 2, while Congress from Friday last.
