Dec 24, 2015: Three Kerala youths in Saudi Arabia have sent a video to their families of their employer beating them, as an SOS to rescue them.
Byju (26), Abhilash (21) and Vimal Kumar (30) had been taken to Saudi Arabia through an agent who promised them lucrative job offers. The video shows the employer beating them with a wooden log.
Abhilash’s relatives said the trio came in touch with the agent, Shamshad, through a police officer, Vinod Kumar, who promised jobs with salary ranging from Rs 30,000 to 45,000 per month.
"They had promised mechanical, electrical and plumbing jobs. But when they reached there, the agent sent them to a Saudi man and was forced to do loading and other works in a brick factory," said Anju, Abhilash’s sister.
Byju left to Saudi on November 6 and the other two were sent on December 4. After several failed attempts to contact the agent following the harassment, the trio reportedly fled the spot and sent the video of their employer beating them to their families, asking to rescue them.
The Kayamkulam police have registered a case against the Haripad-based agency and have forwarded the complaints to NORKA, a department of Government of Kerala that addresses the grievances of non-resident Keralites.
"We got the complaints about the three persons from Kerala. They were in a very bad situation. They were tortured by some people. We have contacted the consulate general. Some Malayali associations have also intervened to send them back to Kerala. They will reach here in two days," said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
The police officer has been suspended for his alleged involvement in the cheating case. The three, who were at an unknown location in Saudi Arabia, were also allegedly threatened to withdraw the complaints.
