Mumbai, May 25: It has been learnt that there is confusion within the board about ’who will bell the cat’. Sources say several members feel Srinivasan - the current president - should resign as his position has become untenable.

Sources within the Board of Control for Cricket in India have revealed that support for N Srinivasan within the organisation has dwindled and that BJP leader Arun Jaitley may be asked to take over the leadership role.

It has been learnt that there is confusion within the board about ’who will bell the cat’ and that several members feel Srinivasan - the current president - should resign as his position has become untenable. As per the BCCI rules though, if the president resigns, the vice-president takes over in the interim period till the next chief is elected. In this particular case then, Shiv Lal Yadav may take over if Srinivasan quits. (Also watch: Lalit Modi on why Srinivasan should resign)

Calls and clamour for Srinivasan’s ouster has been increasing steadily outside of BCCI with recent developments including charges of betting against his son-in-law and former team owner of Chennai Super Kings - Gurunath Meiyappan who was arrested by Mumbai police late Friday night. On Saturday morning, the 68-year-old boarded a chartered flight from Madurai to meet Meiyappan in Mumbai. (Watch: Jaywant Lele and Kirti Azad on Srinivasan)

Srinivasan earlier in the day told NDTV on Saturday that he will not resign and that he won’t give in to political pressure. "I have done no wrong. There is a political conspiracy against me," he said.

There are reports in media that Srinivasan may go to Kolkata this evening, where a meeting with BCCI bosses Arun Jaitley and Rajiv Shukla at the Hotel Taj Bengal has been planned.

The occasion is a party thrown by Cricket Association of Bengal on the eve of IPL6 final at the Eden Gardens on Sunday between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
