Bangalore, June 27, 2012: Jagadeesh Shettar, Minister for Rural Development & Panchayat Raj, will be the new Chief Minister and R. Ashok, Minister for Home Affairs and Transport, will be the Deputy Chief Minister, according to sources who confirmed that the BJP High Command has taken a final decision in this regard.
This decision is said to be the outcome of pressure built up by former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and his supporters who sought removal of D.V. Sadananda Gowda from CM’s post.
The sources believe that the decision for a change in the State’s leadership has been taken keeping in mind the coming Assembly polls, with an attempt to appease the electorally-powerful Lingayat community.
Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP in-charge of Karnataka affairs and Satish, BJP National Organising Secretary, will arrive here tomorrow as observers. They are expected to hold parleys with Yedd-yurappa, Sadananda Gowda, State BJP President K.S. Eshwarappa and other senior ministers with the sole objective to elect the new CM through consensus and not through an election, as in the case of Sadananda Gowda. The duo will then report to BJP National President Nitin Gadkari.
