Mumbai, Jan 14, 2020: Shiv Sena has hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party for likening Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Maratha warrior King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
In its editorial in Saamana, the Sena said, "There is a lot of anguish in Maharashtra over the book ’Aaj ke Shivaji Narendra Modi’. This is not against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi does not even know about it. It is done by someone from BJP in Delhi office. 11 crore people of Maharashtra did not like this at all."
The editorial later says about the work done by Shivaji Maharaj for Swaraj. The editorial says that BJP leaders from Maharashtra also oppose the book.
"Jay Bhagwan Goyala, who has brought this book, was the one who attacked Maharashtra Sadan wherein the statue of Shivaji Maharaj was destroyed. Now BJP is saying he is not related to the party. How is that possible? He released the book in the party office. BJP leaders were present," the editorial further added.
"Descendents of Shivaji Maharaj should be ready to take action. It is an insult of Shivaji Maharaj," the Sena said.
Another descendant of the Maratha Throne in Kolhapur and Rajya Sabha MP, from BJP quota Sambhaji Raje Chatrapati has also appealed to party leaders to withdraw the book.
Maharashtra Housing Minister too jumped into the controversy calling the comparison as the height of shamelessness.
