New Delhi, May 25, 2013: Law Minister Kapil Sibal on Saturday announced that the government is ready with new legislation to deal with unfair practices like match-fixing and spot-fixing. Sibal said that the government will bring a new standalone law at the earliest as the current season of IPL is entangled in the controversy of spot-fixing and betting.
Sibal said that the government does not want to let down millions of sports fans. "We will bring a new standalone law at the earliest; it will be broadbased and deal with corporates, bookies and players. The new law will apply not only to cricket but all kinds of sports. Arun Jaitley, Rajiv Shukla met me and we have discussed this at length," said Sibal.
The Union Minister said that the government has consulted the Attorney General on the issue. "New law will have definition of dishonest practices which will include any gesture or act which changes the course of a match," added Sibal.
