Siddaramaiah to submit CID initial report in House on Monday

Bengaluru, March 21, 2015 DHNS: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is all set to submit the CID’s preliminary report on the death of IAS officer D K Ravi in the State Legislature on Monday.

Siddaramaiah_Sources in the government said Siddaramaiah would try his best to make use of the Legislature to place the CID report, and may later refer the case to the CBI.

The chief minister will refer the case to the CBI in case party leader Sonia Gandhi expects him to do so.

The State investigating agency has been working overtime in the last two days in order to prepare the preliminary report.

The chief minister on Friday held a series of meetings with senior Cabinet colleagues, including Home Minister K J George, Energy Minister D K Shivakumar and Law Minister T B Jayachandra, and discussed the pros and cons of handing over the case to the CBI. He also met senior officials of the Home department and discussed about the D K Ravi case, the sources said.

CM meets Governor

Later the chief minister met Governor Vajubhai Vala at Raj Bhavan and appraised him of the case. “I met the governor and informed him about the steps taken by the State government in the case,” he told reporters after the meeting.

The Opposition BJP and the JD(S) had on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the governor demanding a CBI probe.

This apart, the Congress has directed all its legislators to be compulsorily present in both Houses of the Legislature on Monday in order to counter the aggressive Opposition.

Besides, the ruling party is planning to table and seek approval for important bills in the Legislature, including the Appropriation Bill pertaining to 2015-16 State budget, the sources said.

SMK meets Ravi’s wife, father-in-law

Senior Congress leader S M Krishna on Friday met the wife and father-in-law of D K Ravi and offered his condolences, reports DHNS from Bengaluru.

Krishna, along with his wife Prema, visited the house of Hanumantharayappa, the father-in-law of Ravi, in Nagarabhavi.

Later speaking to the media, Krishna said he welcomed Sonia Gandhi’s suggestion to Siddaramaiah to go by the sentiment of the people and hand over the death case to the CBI. He said she had responded to the sentiments of the people.

Asked why he did not guide the chief minister to hand it over to the CID, Krishna said he was not in a position to advise the government.
