New Delhi, Mar 21, 2024: Spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev has undergone a brain surgery due to internal bleeding. Doctors at the Apollo Hospital in Delhi said he had shown steady progress after the operation on Sunday (March 17) and his vitals were getting back on track.

A team of doctors comprising Dr Vinit Suri, Dr Pranav Kumar, Dr Sudheer Tyagi, and Dr S Chatterjee conducted an emergency brain surgery within a few hours of his admission to relieve the bleeding in the skull. Sadhguru was weaned off the ventilator post-surgery.

Senior neurologist Dr Vinit Suri, in a video on microblogging site X (formerly Twitter), said, “Sadhguru has just faced a life-threatening situation. He had ignored a severe and consistent headache for the last four weeks as he wanted to cater to all his commitments. He even took part in the Mahashivratri programme on March 8.”

The doctors said he had ignored his condition for a long time due to his commitment to his work. He told the doctors that he had not missed a meeting in 40 years and even walked out of the hospital without informing anyone as he did not want to cancel his appointment.

He said, “When the pain went out of control on March 15 evening, he consulted us. We suggested an MRI, but he was reluctant to go for it as he had prior commitments for a meeting. He told me he had never missed a meeting in 40 years. However, we somehow persuaded him.”

He said the 66-year-old spiritual leader had suffered two-time bleeding under his skull and the doctors suggested an operation but delayed it due to his schedule.

He said, “We were surprised to see him attend events in that excruciating pain.”

The neurologist said, “On March 17, his condition worsened and he got drowsy. He had weakness in his left leg along with recurrent vomiting. It was the first time he asked us to treat him the way we wanted to.”

The doctor said they had to operate on him immediately after admission on March 17 as the swelling had changed the position of his brain and he was getting confused and drowsy.”

He said Sadhguru was healing faster than expected.

After regaining consciousness, the spiritual leader thanked the doctors at Appollo Hospital and smiled saying, “Here I am in a Delhi hospital with a patch skull, but no damaged brain.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday took to X, sharing about his conversation with Sadhguru.

He wrote, “Spoke to @SadhguruJV Ji and wished him good health and a speedy recovery.”

In his reply, Sadhguru wrote, “Beloved Pradhan Mantriji, I should not be a Concern to you. You have a Nation to conduct. Overwhelmed by your concern, on my way to recovery. Dhanyavad.”

Later, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar also took to X, wishing Sadhguru a speedy recovery. “Deeply concerned on hearing about Sadhguru ji’s surgery. Wish him a speedy and full recovery,” he wrote.
