Spot-fixing: Bombay High court says BCCI probe panel is illegal

Mangalore Today News Network

BCCI ProbeMumbai, July 30, 2013(DHNS):The Bombay High Court Tuesday held as illegal the Indian cricket board’s two-member probe panel that gave a clean chit to Chennai Super Kings team principal Gurunath Meiyappan and Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra in the betting and the spot-fixing scandal in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The court ordered the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) to set up a fresh probe panel.
The BCCI had earlier suspended both Meiyappan, son-in-law of board president N. Srinivasan, and Kundra and asked former Tamil Nadu High Court judges T. Jayaram Chouta and R. Balasubramanian to conduct an internal investigation.

The panel’s report, which was submitted to the Working Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in Kolkata Sunday, gave a clean chit to the two, paving away for Srinivasan, who had stepped aside in June ahead of the investigation, to return as the BCCI president.

In the wake of severe criticism, the BCCI has defended the probe panel’s report and blamed the Mumbai police, who had arrested Meiyappan, for lack of co-operation.
