Lucknow, Oct 28, 2017 : Four of the five accused arrested for attacking a Swiss couple at Fatehpur Sikri had confessed to the crime. One of them told a leading newspaper that they did not think of anything before attacking them and it was the ‘stupidest mistake’ of their lives. Noteworthy that three of the five accused are minors and have said the crime was committed at the heat of the moment and apologised to the couples for hurting them.
Speaking to Times of India, the accused gave an account of the incident. But interestingly, their versions differ from the couple’s version in several terms. Four of the five accused also said the fifth person, Rahul was wrongly arrested by the police.
According to the report the accused said that the couple were making few inquiries with them but they could not understand them. And they saw the couple getting ‘intimate’, following which ‘for no reason’ Pankaj (one of the two adults arrested) started attacking them and the others joined in.
One of the accused, a 13-year old said as they were attacking the man, the woman intervened, and that is when they attacked her as well. “The assault continued for a while and they both were lying lifeless, not fighting back anymore. There was blood all over. We ran away,” he told Times of India. “We didn’t have control on ourselves and attacked them for no reason,” he added.
All five of the accused have been booked under Section 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), Section 326 (Voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), Section 147 (punishment for rioting), Section 148( riot with armed deadly weapon), Section 325 ( Punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and 336 ( act of endangering life and personal safety ) of the Indian Penal Code.
The three minor accused have been sent to a juvenile home and the two adult accused have been sent to judicial remand for 14 days.
The accused attacked Swiss citizens Quentin Jeremy Clerc and Marie Droz at Fatehpur Sikri railway station on October 22. According to the victims, the accused stalked them and tried to forcefully click selfies with them. When the couple protested against it, the accused attacked them. Quentin was severely injured with fractures in is skulls and Marie was left with a broken arm among other injuries. The couple were first taken to a Community health centre, but ultimately brought to Apollo Hospital in Delhi.
Following the incident, the Ministry of External Affairs intervened and pressurised the police to nab the culprits. Finally five were arrested by the Agra police.
