Tamil Nadu makes e-registration, 14-day home quarantine compulsory for domestic passengers

Chennai, Dec 17, 2021: The Tamil Nadu government released a fresh set of norms for domestic flyers in the wake of rising Omicron coronavirus cases. In a fresh notice, the state government said that all passengers arriving from Kerala "are required to carry a vaccination certificate showing both doses of vaccination or a Covid negative report from an ICMR approved lab not earlier than 72 hours of arrival".

The state government also directed airport authorities to "ensure passengers from other states arriving at Coimbatore Airport have a negative Covid test report."

The Tamil Nadu government also said that e-registration is mandatory for all domestic passengers arriving in Tamil Nadu via airports from other states and union territories. The notice said all passengers traveling from other states/UTs or countries should have e-registeration.

The notice also mentioned quarantine rules for passengers.

"Institutional quarantine will be for only symptomatic passengers on the discretion of health officials," reads the notice.

"All passengers have to undergo self-monitoring or home-quarantine for 14 days. During the period, if the individual develops fever, cough, breathlessness, they shall visit health facility", the notice said.

"Thermal screening shall be done for all passengers," the notice said.

"Covid test for passengers will be conducted at the discretion of health officials," the notice said.

A man with a travel history to Nigeria had tested positive for the Omicron variant of coronavirus in Tamil Nadu. He was identified as the state’s first confirmed case of the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2. The apartment in which the 47-year-old man is quarantined has been cordoned off by health officials.

The person concerned and seven other passengers associated with him are under isolation at Guindy King’s Institute, Ma Subramanian, Health Minister said on Wednesday.
