Tax officials raid premises linked to top Malayali YouTubers across Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, June 23, 2023: In a first, the Income Tax department conducted raids on top YouTubers, including actress Pearle Maaney, in Kerala. On Thursday, the Income Tax Department’s investigation team searched the houses and offices of more than 10 YouTubers in connection with tax evasion.

 

The tax officials had made a list of major YouTubers after observing their activities and income. It was found that some YouTubers bought expensive land, buildings, and luxury properties.

The tax officials also knew that these Youtubers were going on foreign trips and buying expensive gifts to promote business needs.

It is estimated that there are YouTubers in Kerala who earn somewhere between Rs 1 crore to Rs 2 crore per year. The authorities indicate that this is the first phase of the inspection.

They said the tax evasion by YouTubers was under investigation.

The Kozhikode unit of the Income Tax Department registered cases and conducted searches in Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur, Kasaragod, Ernakulam, and Palakkad districts of Kerala. The inspection started at 8 am and continued till evening.

The investigation was conducted by 10 teams led by the Kochi Intelligence Division of the Income Tax Department.
