Bangalore, Nov 5, 2013, DHNS: A software engineer was arrested on Tuesday on a charge of raping his 14-year-old relative for the last two years, police said. The arrest was made after his wife filed a complaint against him.

Ashwin Tambrekar, 35, who works with Pronto Network in Bilekahalli, first raped the girl two years ago when his wife, Tumpa, was in Mumbai, police added.

jailed -rapeThe girl is Tumpa’s niece whom she had brought to her home in Omkar Nagar Layout, Hulimavu, with a promise of a better life.

In the complaint, Tumpa alleged that her husband had threatened to “kick the girl out of the house” if she disclosed the matter to her. Hence, the victim kept quiet, Tumpa added.
One-and-a-half-years ago, Tumpa further said, she had gone to Kolkata as she was pregnant. She, however, left her niece to the care of Ashwin.

After her return, she discovered that her husband had sexually assaulted the girl, Tumpa said in the complaint.

Demanding answers, she picked a quarrel with Ashwin and strictly told him to stay away from her niece. But the suspect allegedly did not mend his ways and continued to molest the girl, leading to frequent quarrels between the husband and wife, police said.

According to Tumpa, things came to a head on Sunday when Ashwin again sexually assaulted her niece who was looking after the couple’s one-and-a-half-year old daughter that day. Tumpa was not at home at that time.

But she returned in time to catch her husband “in the act.” She again quarrelled with the suspect and demanded that he buy her and the victim train tickets to Kolkata. She said she would go away to never return to him, police said.

But Ashwin is said to have refused to buy the tickets and the couple fought again. As the situation became “irremediable,” Tumpa approached the police and lodged a complaint. Ashwin was later subjected to medical examination at the Victoria Hospital and arrested.

Tumpa belongs to a family of labourers from Hooghly district of West Bengal. She worked as a bar dancer in Mumbai where Ashwin fell for her and the couple got married in 2006. The suspect was looking for a job in that city after graduating in engineering from Bhopal.
The couple moved to Bangalore after Ashwin landed a job here.

But, Tumpa told the police, she could not adapt herself to the City and wanted to return to Mumbai but Ashwin didn’t agree. Nevertheless, she would go to Mumbai once in a while and stay there for a week.
