Telangana, December 04, 2024: Tremors were felt in several parts of Telangana as a 5.3 magnitude earthquake hit the region.
The epicentre of the earthquake was at Mulugu. At some places in Mulugu, people ran out of their homes. However, no casualties have been reported so far.
According to the National Centre for Seismology, the tremor was recorded at around 7.27 am on Wednesday at a depth of 40 km.
There were no reports of casualties or major damage. Authorities are assessing the situation, while experts advise residents to stay alert and avoid crowded or unsafe structures during earthquakes.
“EQ of M: 5.3, On: 04/12/2024 07:27:02 IST, Lat: 18.44 N, Long: 80.24 E, Depth: 40 Km, Location: Mulugu, Telangana,” the National Center for Seismology posted on X.
Telangana rarely experiences seismic activity, making the quake a rare event in the region.
Earthquake tremors in parts of Maharashtra
Tremors were felt in Maharashtra’s Nagpur, Gadchiroli and Chandrapur districts after an earthquake struck Mulugu in neighbouring Telangana on Wednesday morning. The earthquake of 5.3-magnitude was recorded in Mulugu at 7.27am, according to the NCS.
Light tremors were felt in Nagpur, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) sources and local residents. Mild shocks were also experienced in Gadchiroli, which is located very close to Telangana, according to the district information office.
