New Delhi, Jan 11, 2013 : The Supreme Court has made some strong observations about lack of safety women in the national capital. The apex court said, while listening to a PIL that there was no safety for women in Delhi.
The court said it is very concerned about providing a safe environment for women so they could live with dignity. The court was hearing a PIL filed by a Supreme Court advocate seeking cancellation of permits of motor vehicles violating motor vehicle act when it made these observations.
This also comes at a time when women safety in Delhi is a major cause of concern. The brutal Delhi gangrape-murder case, followed by angry protests from citizens across the country, saw tall promises being made by authorities to ensure safety of women in Delhi. Less than a month later, a ground check by CNN-IBN revealed that the new women’s helpline, not only takes more than a couple of phone calls, but also, almost 30 minutes to register a complaint.
he Delhi braveheart was brutally assaulted when she boarded the bus after an auto refused to take to her destination. A month on, CNN-IBN still finds autorickshaws routinely refusing to take passengers after 7 pm. Some don’t want to go by the meter while some just flatly refuse.
