Bhopal, Dec 26, 2019: Bhopal MP Pragya Thakur on Thursday called some students of Bhopal university traitors after they called her a terrorist when she visited the campus.
Few students of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University, who were all National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) members, raised "aatankwadi wapas jayo" (terrorist go back) slogans when Pragya Thakur reached the university campus.
Pragya Thakur, who visited the university’s journalism department campus to meet with two students protesting against the administration, slammed students and called them traitors in response.
"They said MP is a terrorist, these words are illegal and indecent. They abused a female MP, on a constitutional post, they are all traitors. I will definitely take action," Thakur said.
The incident occurred on Wednesday when two girl students of the university staged a dharna after they were not allowed to sit for an exam by the university administration over low attendance.
Both students sat on a dharna at the gate of the university campus from Tuesday night. As the students refused to budge, the Bhopal MP came to meet the two students and discuss the issue in detail.
However, NSUI student activists started opposing Thakur and started shouting "terrorist go back" slogans. A ruckus followed for about 40 minutes as NSUI workers engaged in a verbal fight with Thakur’s supporters.
Police rushed to the spot to ensure the situation does not get out of control.
However, Thakur said that the police did not take any action against the NSUI workers, who she claimed were spoiling the campus atmosphere by raising such slogans.
