Palakkad, March 5, 2017: What is the best gift a father can give his daughter? Amid the million options that may pop up in your mind, let me tell you that in today’s world the best gift that she can get is an identity – her name.

During a time, when parents comb the web to find that unique name from the various permutations and combinations offered by baby sites, here is someone who choose to be simple, yet amazing. For their firstborn, Palakkad native Ajay Ghosh and his wife Drishya looked no further away from their country of birth and decided to name their little angel – India.

Why India?
I have always been on the hunt for unique names.I had decided long back that I would give an unique name for my child. If I were to be blessed with a boy, I would have named him Indian. And I named my beautiful baby girl India.

India is a name that reflects the grandeur of varied cultures, religions and traditions. Only a great nation like ours can uphold strong virtues of peace and forgiveness for this long. Naming her India makes me proud.

I have always been a staunch believer of Gandhian philosophy and I’m happy to be to be India’s father.

It’s also interesting to note that Ghosh did not add the burden of caste and religious identities on his dear daughter in the form of a surname. For he believes that she should choose her own religious identity, if she wants so in the future.

The name of Ghosh’s little angel is trending on Facebook and his friends are wholeheartedly appreciating his choice. However, Ghosh said that his elderly relatives initially had a problem in accepting the name. Ghosh was all praise for his wife Drishya, who stood by his name choice, despite resistance from family.
