Gujarat, November 6, 2024: Three worker have died after a temporary structure collapsed at a construction site on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor on Tuesday evening in Gujarat’s Anand district.

A Vasad police station official confirmed that three workers had died and another was receiving treatment at the hospital.

According to Anand fire officer Dharmesh Gor, all four workers were trapped under concrete blocks, with two of them dying at the scene.

“One of the victims who was rescued alive was declared dead at hospital," he said.

The fallen blocks are being removed to ensure no other workers remain trapped beneath, Gor added.

A temporary structure of steel and concrete blocks being used for well foundation work fell down, said an official of the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) which is executing the project.

The NHSRCL official  further noted that rescue operations are ongoing, with cranes and excavators being used to clear the wreckage.

The construction is part of the 508-kilometre Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor.

The bullet train project covers 352 km in Gujarat and 156 km in Maharashtra, with a total of 12 stations planned, including stops in Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad.

The project is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, cutting the journey to just around three hours, compared to the current 6 to 8 hours by road or conventional rail.
