18 others were also injured in the accident; they have been taken to the Sadar hospital.

Fire engines are at the site and are trying to douse the flame.

Sources say the accident seemed to be a lapse on the part of the railway employees, considering the accident took place at a manned crossing. An inquiry will also be conducted into today’s accident by the Commissioner of Railway safety, the Railways has announced.

They will also give Rs. 5 lakh as compensation to the families of those who died, and Rs. 1 lakh as compensation for the injured. The minister of state for Railways will also visit the accident site.
