Trouble mounts for Chandrababu Naidu: Courts extends judicial custody till Sep 24

Chennai, Sep 22, 2023: An Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court in Vijayawada on Friday extended Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief Chandrababu Naidu’s judicial custody till Sunday, September 24. Naidu was produced in court virtually as the earlier imposed remand ended today.

The TDP supremo had been in judicial custody for 14 days in connection with the alleged Skill Development Corporation scam.

He was arrested on September 9 for allegedly misappropriating funds from the Skill Development Corporation, which allegedly led to a loss of over Rs 300 crore to the state exchequer. The next day, the ACB Court remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days.

He is currently lodged in the Rajamahendravaram Central Prison.

Meanwhile, the High Court has scheduled the hearing on a petition by Naidu for quashing his judicial remand at 1:30 pm today.

Earlier this week, the Andhra Pradesh CID sought a fresh warrant against the former chief minister after filing a new FIR related to the Rs 330 crore Fibernet project scam case, officials said on Tuesday.

The probe agency filed a prisoner transit (PT) warrant seeking the custody of Naidu in the alleged AP FiberNet Scam case, Special Public Prosecutor Y N Vivekananda, representing AP CID told PTI.

Naidu was named as accused number 25 (A-25) in the FiberNet case.

The former chief minister has been booked under IPC Sections 166, 167, 418, 465, 468, 471, 409 and 506 read with 120-B, including Section 13 (2) read with 13 (1) (C) (D) of PC Act 1988 in connection with the AP FiberNet Scam case.
