Noida, Mar 16, 2022: A seven-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped by her neighbour and his associate in Noida to "sacrifice" her for an occult practice. The police arrested the two who have been identified as Sonu Balmiki and his associate, Neetu, and rescued the girl on Tuesday.
Sonu Balmiki was allegedly told by an occultist to hold a human sacrifice to please the gods which will ensure his wedding. Sonu and Neetu were reportedly preparing the girl for a sacrifice that they would have performed on the day of Holi, March 18.
According to the police, the occultist is still at large and has been identified as Satendra.
The child, who lived in Chhijarsi village, had gone missing on March 13. According to Harish Chander, the deputy commissioner of Police, Central Noida, she was rescued from Baghpat district.
He said the locals in Chhijarsi, which falls under Sector 63 police station limits, had launched a search immediately. They approached the police after they were unable to find her.
The police immediately lodged an FIR under IPC section 363 (punishment for kidnapping). Chander said “Searches were launched while over 200 people were tracked through CCTV footage for their connection with the incident after which the two accused were zeroed in and arrested through manual inputs.”
According to Harish Chander, the two arrested do not have any criminal history. The child was reportedly kept at Sonu’s sister’s house in Baghpat where the police found her.
"Due to the police’s efforts, the child has been rescued safely. The two main accused have been arrested while three others involved in the episode but absconding will soon be held," Chander continued.
Police commissioner Alok Singh has announced a Rs 50,000 award for the police team involved in cracking the case. The police said further legal proceedings are underway.
