Panjim, April 5, 2016: Two students studying in Class XI and Class IX allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves to a tree in the forested areas of Carambolim, during the early hours of Monday.

Villagers spotted the bodies of both the youth hanging by a single nylon rope. Old Goa police sources said that prima facie the case appears that both were in love.

“They were living in the same vicinity. The boy had two brothers and lived with his relatives while the girl was with her parents. Their relationship was made known to their families just last week but neither of the two was reprimanded,” a senior police officer said. He added that despite this they allegedly decided to end their lives.

Police have, however, not come to any conclusion on the deaths and are in the process of recording various statements. “We are probing every possible angle. They had also recently answered their exams,” the officer said.

According to the villagers, the boy was last seen near a temple at around 12.30 am on Monday. Their bodies were discovered after sunrise.

This is the second suicide involving students in less than a week. Last week an 11-year-old boy was found hanging from the ceiling at his house in Loliem, Canacona.
