Kakinada, Mar 11, 2021: Two workers were killed and six others injured in an explosion in a chemical factory near Kakinada in East Godavari district on Thursday afternoon.
According to police and fire services personnel, the storage tank in the Tyche chemical industries unit at Sarpavaram exploded reportedly due to a chemical reaction leading to the deaths of two workers.
District Fire Officer Ch Ratna Babu said nitric acid and some other chemical were stored in the tank and it is suspected that overheating of the chemicals led to the blast.
Fire services personnel shifted the injured to hospital. Agriculture minister K Kanna Babu rushed to the spot and is supervising rescue operations. Police are investigating the cause of the explosion.
