UAPA invoked against 10 accused in Karnataka Bajrang Dal activist murder case

Mangalore Today News Network

Shivamogga, Mar 08, 2022: The Shivamogga district police on Monday booked ten accused in the Karnataka Bajrang Dal activist murder case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

Harsha

UAPA provisions have been invoked against the accused in the murder case of Harsha. The 26-year-old Bajrang Dal activist was stabbed to death by a group of men over an alleged feud.

The police stated that the investigation team completed the inquiry and has handed over the accused to judicial custody. The police took ten accused into their custody and interrogated them for 11 days till March 7.

Harsha’s father had alleged that Muslim miscreants murdered his son because he was a Bajrang Dal activist. Harsha was murdered on February 20 and an FIR was filed based on the father’s complaint.

Protests that erupted in Shivamogga over Harsha’s death took a violent turn as protesters began to pelt stones, brandish weapons and even set vehicles ablaze. To ensure that the situation did not get out of hand, police had to resort to using tear gas to disperse the crowd.

The government had ruled out any connection between Harsha’s murder and the hijab protests in the state.
