Superintendent of police ( traffic) Kalpana Saxena is currently in hospital after suffering deep injuries on her back and arms.

Saxena told the doctors that she acted after receiving a call from an army officer.

He told her the police officers were demanding bribe from some people near the Bareilly- Lucknow road and misbehaving with those who were questioning their act.

“ I rushed to the spot. When I asked the officers why they were extorting money, they told me to get lost. They said I should stay in my office and let them do their duty,” Saxena said.

But when she persisted, “ the constables got in their police jeep, held me by my hand and started the vehicle. They dragged me for a kilometre”, Saxena added.

She said they did not bother about the watching public.

“ Later, they pulled me on the road and even tried to run the jeep over me. But the passersby saved me,” Saxena alleged.

The accused have been identified as Ravindar Kumar, Manoj Singh and Ravindra Singh.

Saxena plans to register a case against them after she is discharged.

“ They knew me well and deliberately dragged me to terrorise the public and send the message that they don’t even fear their superiors,” she said.

Rakesh Kumar Jolly, police superintendent said he had already registered a case against the men. “ They are absconding but we have sent teams to arrest them,” he said.

Bareilly DIG N. K. Srivastava said the process to suspend the policemen had been started.
