Uttar Pradesh, June 17, 2016: Uttar Pradesh Police on Friday stopped BJP Leader Sangeet Som from marching towards the politically sensitive Kairana region in a bid to avoid any kind of communal flare up in the state.

"We have suspended the march and given a 15 day ultimatum to the local administration to improve the situation in Kairana. If the situation does not improve we will take up the march after 15 days. I have taken the administration notice and being a law abiding person, have decided not to take forward the march today", Som said adding that

The Nirbhay Yatra march was planned to protest against the law and order situation in the state and was led by Som as a show of strength and to defy the prohibitory orders put up by the local administration.

The Kairana region which has been in the news over the alleged mass exodus of Hindu families post the claims made by a BJP leader Hukum Singh came back to the limelight on Friday after Sangeet Som said that he won’t allow Uttar Pradesh to become another Kashmir.

Som was indirectly referring to the alleged mass exodus claims by BJP leader Hukum Singh that made headlines last week.

Hukum Singh however wasn’t very supportive of the Yatra and said it could create a communal flare up and should be avoided.

Reacting to statements by Sangeet Som, UP Cabinet minister Shivpal Yadav said that any attempt to create tension between communities won’t be tolerated.

"Be it Sangeet Som or any leader from any party we won’t allow an atmosphere of riot to prevail", Yadav said at a hurriedly called press conference.
