Bengaluru, Feb 03, 2024: Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has been summoned by a Bengaluru court in connection with his ’Sanatana Dharma’ remarks.

The Special Court of People’s Representatives in Bengaluru summoned the minister on a complaint lodged by a Bengaluru local Paramesh. The court has issued a summons for him to appear in person for the hearing, scheduled for March 4.

Udhayanidhi

Udhayanidhi, who is the son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, stoked a controversy last year by comparing Sanatana Dharma to "dengue" and "malaria".

Speaking at a conference in September 2023, Udhayanidhi Stalin said that Sanatana dharma is against social justice and equality and should be "eradicated".

Despite facing backlash for his statement, Udhayanidhi Stalin stood his ground, saying that he would oppose Sanatana Dharma forever.

Advocate Dharmapal, appearing for petitioner Paramesh, said, "Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi Stalin partook in an event that opposed Sanatana Dharma. He made a comment about Sanatana Dharma claiming that it has to be driven out like dengue and malaria. This was published everywhere. After that, he has been sticking to the stand and reiterating the same statement. He said that he will face it in the court as well."

"With the Ram Mandir inauguration, a lot of devotion and awareness has increased regarding Hindu dharma. At such a time, statements like this hurt the sentiment of those following Hindu dharma and some others from different faiths too. Based on a complaint filed by Paramesh, the court has issued a summons and asked the minister to appear on March 4."
