Kyiv, Mar 25, 2022: As the Russian onslaught in Ukraine continues, the Ukrainian army has claimed that Moscow wants to end the war by May 9.
As per a report by the Kyiv Independent, the intelligence sources from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have claimed that the Russian troops are being told that the war must end by May 9.
The date is widely celebrated in Russia as the day of victory over Nazi Germany.
Meanwhile, Ukraine accused Moscow of forcibly taking hundreds of thousands of its civilians to Russia, claiming some of them may be used as “hostages” to pressure Kyiv to give up the war.
Lyudmyla Denisova, Ukraine’s ombudsperson, said 402,000 people, including 84,000 children, have been taken against their will, a report by the Associated Press said.
The Kremlin gave nearly identical numbers but said those people wanted to go to Russia.
On the other hand, US President Joe Biden and Western allies have pledged new sanctions and humanitarian aid to Ukraine but their offers fell short of the more robust military assistance as asked by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a video appeal.
