Veteran actress Nanda passes away at the age of 75

Mumbai, Mar 25, 2014: Yesteryear film actress Nanda passed away on Tuesday morning. She breathed her last at about 9.15 am today (March 25). She was 75.

Nanda began her film career as a child artist at the age of 8. Nanda’s uncle V. Shantaram gave Nanda a big break by casting her in a successful brother-sister saga Toofan Aur Diya.

Nanda was known to encourage newcomers. She signed 8 films with Shashi Kapoor at a time when he was yet to become successful in Hindi Cinema.

She got engaged to Manmohan Desai in 1992, who died after falling from the terrace of his apartment in 1994, and since then remained unmarried.

She last made a public appearance with Waheeda Rehman for a screening of the Marathi film Natarang (2010).

Nanda acted in films like ’Dhool Ka Phool’, ’Dulhan’, ’Bhabhi’, ’Naya Sansar’, ’Jab Jab Phool Khile’, ’Gumnaam’, ’Shor’, ’Parineeta’. ’Prem Rog’, which released in 1983, starring Padmini Kolhapure and Rishi Kapoor was her last film.
